Mirror, Mirror On My Bathroom Wall
In trying to figure out what to hang over my bathroom toilet I stumbled across a gold mirror that I already had. My mom had picked it up used but ended up not having a place for it in her home so she had given it to me about a year ago.
I tried hanging it over the toilet to see how it looked. The shape was great but with chrome and silver in the bathroom the antique gold looked out of place. To fix the situation I turned to my old friend, spray paint.
The mirror was old and there was no way to detach the mirror from the frame without causing damage so I had to cut out some butcher's paper in the shape of the mirror and carefully tape it down with painter's tape to protect it. Because of the oval shape of the mirror getting the painter's tape to curve and completely cover the mirror without overlapping onto the frame was a little tedious. After that I had a new looking mirror with just two thin coats of silver spray paint.
I love how it looks on the wall and I am really happy with the results. Best of all it was free since I already had the mirror as well as the silver spray paint. Now I am one step closer to finishing my bathroom.
Since I had the silver spray paint out I also decided to update the lid of the canister that I use to store my cotton balls. I've had this canister since I was in undergrad so it was pretty scruffy and worn. Two thin coats of spray paint later and the lid was looking fresh and shiny.
Is anyone else revamping some items they already have? Any spray painting or wall hanging going on in your life?

I am seriously in love with the way the mirror turned out. It's amazing what a can of spray paint can do to freshen up an object. Love that you are finishing things on your to-do list!
I am envious of your ability to revamp your home. I am currently living away from my home in Tennessee. I am a visiting assistant professor at a university in the Northeast and I am renting here. It's a Victorian home and the landlord doesn't want me to put any nails in the walls, etc. *sigh* I want to go home to Tennessee...I miss my little house there!!
Thank you, Rene! I know how you feel about about living away from home and missing being able to have your own space to do with what you want. When I was living in Japan my whole apartment was covered with white textured wallpaper and putting any holes in it was a big no-no. Luckily I knew this in advance and before I moved I practically bought out my Target's supply of Command Strips so I could hang some things on the wall. When will you move back home?
Not soon enough!! I am a university professor. The position I am filling ends in July but I have been asked to extend for another year. I am hoping to find a position closer to home...and someplace warmer as well. :)
Rene- Academia can be really tough in that way. Some of my friends from grad school who became professors have been in the situation where they had to move where they can find positions, not necessarily where they want to live. Good luck finding something closer to home!
For us girls, a bathroom is not a bathroom unless it has at least a mirror! Haha. Yours was pretty cute, Lisa. It isn’t too bold for a piece, yet it isn’t very unnoticeable too. Silver could just go with any color. XOXO Sophie Heinicke
Right on, Sophie! I think I can’t bathe on a bathroom without a mirror. Haha! The silver-framed mirror is way too beautiful that fits so well with almost any bathroom wall color and design. I’ll try these spray painting jobs on my own soon! Allow me to imitate some of your bright ideas. =)

Thank you, Sophie and Elinor!
It looks great, but I think adding more silver items can make that room look even more elegant. What’s good about this idea is you can change the color and repaint as many times as you want. That means your bathroom will improve more by applying a variety of schemes. Way to go, Lisa!

This is a cool idea! Kudos! There are really a lot of nifty tricks to do with old mirrors. Old mirrors always have this tendency to give something more when being revamped, don’t you think? It’s like they have multiple of hidden potentials inside them, just by creating nifty ideas on their frames.

Thank you, Louie!
How about trying to paint some other fixtures and accessories inside the bathroom? I think it’ll look great if the door knobs and the faucets were sprayed with silver too! Those will match your mirror frame and might create an uplifting mood whenever you use the bathroom. :)
