Love your photo! I've been to Tulum and loved looking at all of the ruins. Unfortunately, we were there when it was terribly hot and sticky. It was almost a necessity for us to swim at the beach to cool off before leaving.
One of our favorite stories about our visit to Tulum involves the collectivo we took to get there. While we waited at the stop for the collectivo to arrive, the grass around us swarmed with mosquitos. When we boarded the small van, every mosquito there decided to come with us. The un-airconditioned vehicle was packed to the hilt, no one but us on it spoke English (and we don't speak Spanish), and my daughters and I were thigh-to-thigh with a dozen or so very sweaty men obviously on their way to work. Everyone on the collectivo immediately started swatting the hordes of mosquitos that we'd brought inside, and my young daughters (neither of which could sit near me) were frozen to their seats wondering why we were traveling this way in a foreign country. (We aren't nearly as adventurous as you.) We laugh at the story to this day, and were so glad that we had air conditioning and American honeymooners to talk to on the way back.
Did you have to wade out into the water to get this shot, or are you shooting around a corner? I don't recognize that particular portion of the beach.
Sandy- What a fun story! It was really hot and sticky when my sister and I were there, too. We were staying in a hotel in Tulum near the ruins so we spent a day at the ruins and brought our bathing suits to hang out on the beach there. I took the photo from the water and was over waist deep for the picture.
