What beautiful work! It's amazing how creative people can be with their hands.
Were these lanterns expensive? I'm sure the labor is cheap. Did they also make the base (wooden slats)?
Did you bring one of these treasures home?

Veronique- Aren't the lanterns pretty? They were pretty reasonably priced and I brought home three small ones for a total of $10. I saw them making the base (it is bamboo) as well as apply the silk to the lanterns. The neat part is that top collar of the base has notches in it so that you can slide it over the prongs on the metal hanger and collapse the lantern flat. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have been able to fit my small lanterns in my luggage.
