My Someday Travel List

It's no secret that I love to head out traveling whenever I can get the opportunity. I love the way my passport has developed a broken in, well loved look to it and I am always ready to jump at the chance to use it some more.

I've had some questions about where I haven't been that I would like to go so I thought I would share my someday travel list. I pretty much want to go everywhere but below are a few places on my wish list that I particularly want to see.

Scandinavia: My maternal heritage is Swedish and Norwegian so I would love to visit. I especially want to see the fjords.

Tanzania: I want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro someday...

Egypt: Cruising down the Nile to Giza to go see the Pyramids and Sphinx is a dream of mine.

Alaska: Of the fifty states of the United States, Alaska is the only one I haven't seen. I want to go on a cruise and visit Denali National Park.

India: There is so much I want to see in India, but I especially want to visit the Golden Triangle and see the Taj Mahal.

Jordan: I would absolutely love to see Petra at some point in my life.

Argentina: I've briefly been to Argentina when I crossed over the border to explore Iguazú Falls from the Argentinian side, but I want to go to Buenos Aires and visit Patagonia someday.

Croatia & Slovenia: I want to start in Dubrovnik, relax along the Dalmatian Coast and then head up to Ljubljana and Lake Bled.

I could go on and on listing places I want to visit but I'll stop now. Now that I have shared some of my dream destinations what places are on your travel wish list?

That is quite a list of some wonderful places yet to see. In the last 15 years my bucket travel list has changed to those closer to home. My passport has not had a work out in years but I keep renewing just in case. We have spent the last 5 years exploring waterfalls within driving distance and it has been pretty exciting and amazing at all the natural wonder. I enjoy your travel photos so much because you see the world and bring it back to those of us rooted (or some would say stuck) along with some great story telling :-)

I would love to go to Ireland to visit my ancestral family and the farm that the 7th generation of my family is still living on. I would love to visit San Diego. I would love to visit Mexico to see the approximately 15 students we have hosted in the past 5 years because I miss them. Closer to home, there are a lot of small towns in Missouri that my daughter and I visited together before she left for Northwestern last year. We are planning on going to more towns together this summer on our now annual mother/daughter sojourn.

So many places on my list! I did a couple of those Facebook quizzes recently and realized how little I've actually traveled. I've been to less than half of the states and only a handful of foreign countries.
To narrow my list down a little...in the U.S., San Francisco, Maine/Vermont (in the fall!), the Carolinas, Hawaii, Seattle, Austin, San Antonio.
Elsewhere in the world...Peru, a number of places in Europe, Australia/NZ, Guatemala (I've been there but I want to return with my husband), PEI. Okay I'll stop now!
I've only been to one of the places on your list above, Alaska. Hubby and I did our first (and probably only) cruise there in 2005. AMAZING! We loved the whole thing and hope to return someday to do some fishing (both deep sea and river fly fishing).

There are so many places to see, how do we narrow it down? I've only been to 24 countries, and feel like I haven't been anywhere yet. My husband and I tried to do a 3-week trip to Egypt and Jordan three times. The first couple times we cancelled were because my husband developed cancer, and the last time was because of the riots. We were so close, only to be departing in two weeks! Needless to say, Egypt and Jordan are still on my bucket list, but perhaps pushed back 20 years from now. LOL. I definitely want to do Scandinavia (gotta see the Aurora borealis), Slovenia (hopefully with Austria), India, China (when the pollution has lessened :P), New Zealand, Istanbul, Palau, South Africa, Malaysia (hopefully with Singapore), Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and ICELAND! I'm planning to cross off either South Africa or New Zealand in October for our 10-year wedding anniversary this year. I love travelling, and talking about travelling. :)

Mary-Lou- That sounds nice that you have so many wonderful places to explore nearby. I need to to do a better job of exploring Michigan!

Kathy- That is so cool that you still have family running an ancestral farm back in Ireland! Where in Ireland is it? That is also really neat that you hosted students from Mexico.

Hilary- I've been to New England a few times but never in the fall and I would love to go then, too. I also want to go to PEI as well. I've heard it is gorgeous!

Ethylene- I completely agree that it is hard to narrow down a wish list with so many places to see. I can't believe that your Egypt and Jordan plans have been thwarted so many times. Hopefully your husband is fully recovered. Either South Africa or New Zealand would be excellent choices to visit for your anniversary. I spent about three weeks in both countries and loved them.

Lisa-The ancestral family farm is in Kilkenny. I have never been to Ireland and I would really like to go.
Yes, it is a lot of fun to have our Mexican guests here. The only bad part is the saying good-bye which is
quite difficult.

Kathy- You should definitely visit Ireland if you have a chance. It would be so special to see your ancestral family farm. I had friends get married in Ireland so I spent a week before the wedding traveling around and just loved it. I completely agree with you that having international friends is wonderful and enriching, but the prospect of saying good-bye and not knowing if you will ever see them again is terrible.

Awesome advice, I agree about packing light. I have found that you wear two to three items of clothing constantly so stick to them and keep room for all those treasures you will bring home along the way. I prefer an aisle seat instead of a window on long haul flights. Good luck traveling all.Neelum Valley Hotels
